OeMAG

OeMAG (Abwicklungsstelle für Ökostrom AG) administers funding under Austria's EAG, including the investment grants for photovoltaics and battery storage.

What is OeMAG?

Abwicklungsstelle für Ökostrom AG, OeMAG for short, is the body through which funding under Austria’s Renewable Energy Expansion Act is applied for and administered. Investment grants and market premiums run through its EAG portal. It also publishes monthly market prices for electricity from photovoltaics and other renewable sources.

OeMAG is best known for the funding calls for photovoltaics and storage: grants were awarded in fixed time windows, and according to the Ministry of Economy and Energy the money in the second call of 2026 was gone after 33 seconds. From 2027 this procedure is to be replaced by a storage system bonus, applied for after completion. As of October 2026 this is planned but not adopted.

What matters in practice

  • check conditions and deadlines directly with OeMAG, as they change from year to year
  • under the current system, funding is applied for before ordering, not afterwards
  • only count grants in the economic analysis once they have been approved
  • OeMAG’s monthly market prices give a reference point for the value of PV electricity fed into the grid

Practical example

A business with an existing PV system plans a battery in autumn 2026. Under the current system it would have had to wait for the next funding call. Under the planned transition rule, a project with intelligent storage that received no EAG funding in 2026 and is invoiced or commissioned from 1 November 2026 could apply under the new system in 2027, provided the change in the law is adopted.

The Speichercampus perspective

Speichercampus recommends calculating storage projects without funding first. An OeMAG grant then improves the result instead of being what makes it work.
